Lisa Dykes August Poet

About Lisa Dykes

I have been writing since age 14. It turned into a great hobby for me along with being a musician and artist. I have played drums professionally in the past. My first major project was with a band called The Rozen Bombs. We recorded a CD and traveled all around the midwestern and eastern states in the late 90s.

I have a knack for entrepreneurship. Owning a vending business, a cleaning business and partaking in other side hustles as well.

Although I graduated from High School with a "B" average, school settings just weren't my thing. I attended IUSB only for a short time focusing on philosophy and.literature. I later became president of a midsize corporation that I sold in 2015.

My poem, Head Long, is related to my autistic experience and social anxiety along with identity issues autistic people face. I intend to advocate for people with ASD more through my art and writing.

Sands

Orange skies

Deep waters of blue

Surrounded by soft tan sands

The water is crisp, clear

Clearest ever seen

My hands sift the warm soft sands

And I can hear them breathe

This feeling must be peace

I must be HOME at last

This place where the grains of sand

Breathe and all of nature sings

I have sat on this shore many times

Admired the birds, the waters and skies

But TODAY is the FIRST time

I heard the grains of sand breathe

The sands are alive

They know peace

They are content to just be
