Nathan Margoni May Guest Artist 2025
When and how did I become such a serious and boring adult?!
Exploding Head with Nathan Margoni
When did my life become so consumed by going to work, walking the dog, mowing the lawn, cleaning dishes, and going back to work again? What happened to me?
Weed Killer
I guess I grew up. Peter Pan would be disappointed- he would have banished me from Neverland, along with the other Lost Boys who stopped believing and “can’t even fly after their hats.”
My Face
I need to find some fairy dust somewhere before the sense of curiosity, wonder, and mischief is gone forever. I need to sew my shadow back to my shoes, or maybe I’ll use hot glue, since I’ve never been great with a needle and thread. Instead of pirates and fairies, my Neverland is populated by grotesque monsters, human/animal hybrids, and pimple-faced adolescents. It’s a strange world, sometimes scary and sometimes joyful, but always infused with a childish sense of wonder and play.
Journey Through the Digestive System
Like Peter, I try to entice others to join me in Neverland. I invite them to leave the adult world behind and engage in play. In “My Face,” for example, viewers are invited to walk on a squeaky-toy floor, activating primal squeals as they view a giant grotesque self-portrait panorama. I try to achieve the same results on a much smaller scale with my Golden Boy series. These drawings and paintings feature a whimsical style that references children’s book illustrations, drawing viewers in with a sense of familiarity. In both cases, I want viewers to revert to a mindset of curiosity and wonder, and perhaps even find their own version of Neverland.
