Becoming Country Chic Poems by Brittany Fox

“Highway”
On the Highway
Down I go the low way
The sunrise flickers through the trees
I drive on back up and can’t see the sun
But I see the sky brightening
Between the lines
on the narrow path I drive
Through highs and lows
There is light for me to seek
“Cooperhead”
Where you lay is a highway to
the grave, leading down to the
rocky chambers of death
Viper that strikes fear in beast
and man alike.
Precious, lethal creature
that coils and crawls
Strike your copperhead
at the heel that pleases you
Muscles undulate and body
contorts as venom injects
and embeds in another
Release and let them fall, let
them try to get away. No matter,
you, snake, are already gone.
