Getting Things Done By Roger Parent
Before “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg’s Presidential campaign focused the nation’s attention on South Bend, Indiana, there was a mayor who set the stage for urban renewal in the Midwest. Mayor Roger Parent shares stories of events and personalities that brought a baseball stadium downtown, developed a kayak course through the city and other major accomplishments in his new book, Getting Things Done: Stories of Leadership from the South Bend Mayor’s Office to the School Board, the Peace Corps and Beyond.
Though the book reveals political struggles of a Democratic Mayor working with a Republican Governor, Senators and a Congressman, the book is not a story of partisan politics. It is a story of leadership, focused on how Parent worked with people of all types to accomplish big things. While Parent tells of never-before-told experiences working with high-level politicians, he also shares amusing stories about a misbehaving city worker and a snake on the loose.
