Mel's Paper Heart
Cat Girl
By Mel Milbourn
I am a paper doll artist inspired by the nostalgia of vintage fashion, the boldness of pop culture, and the joy of storytelling. My work blends the charm of mid-century illustrations with modern icons—from classic Barbies to cult-favorite monsters, and retro-magazines. Each piece I create is both a character and a world, carefully cut, colored, and styled to feel alive.
Shakespear
Growing up surrounded by dolls, cartoons, and comic books, I found magic in the details—outfits that told stories, accessories that hinted at adventures. Today, I bring that same magic to life in my paper dolls. Some are reflections of people I love; others are fragments of my imagination. All of them carry my passion for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
When I’m not in my studio, I share this love through teaching paper doll making classes at Treasureology in Granger and showing my work across South Bend and beyond. Whether it’s a classroom, an art market, or a gallery, I hope my dolls spark a little joy, a little memory, and a lot of curiosity.
Mermaids
Ultimately, my dream is to bring these characters into the pages of children’s books—where paper meets story, and vintage meets wonder. I feel like a kind of fairy godmother—bringing them to life with scissors and imagination.
