WRITERS’ CONFERENCE

By Kelly Wiseman

Join the Michiana Authors as they host their first Writers Conference to Ignite your Creativity. Saturday, October 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at WNIT, 300 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend.

Our featured authors will include Amanda V. Judd, presenting “One book, Multiple streams of revenue.” Kayla M. Sweet is presenting “Writing as a vehicle for individual or collective transformation,” and Rowenna Miller is presenting "Breaking the Rules: Finding and Using the Core Principles of Writing Craft's Most Notorious Advice.”

Our final presentation will be about where to find creative inspiration, featuring a panel of authors and aimed at stimulating attendees to write their own literary project.

Scheduled throughout the day are breaks to speak with individual authors promoting their recent publications. So, if you are a reader, come and check out the talented writing of local authors.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. presentation: “Writing as a Vehicle for Individual and Collective Transformation,”       by Kayla M. Sweet

Writing is more than a creative act. It is a vehicle for healing, connection, and transformation. In this session, we'll explore how writing shapes not only the stories we tell but the people we become. Together, we'll examine the power of words to foster self-awareness, deepen empathy, challenge assumptions, and inspire meaningful change in the world. You'll leave with a renewed understanding of the impact your voice can have on both your own journey and the world around you. If you've ever wondered whether your writing truly matters, this session is an invitation to remember that it does.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. presentation: “Breaking the Rules: Finding and Using the Core Principles of Writing Craft’s Most Notorious Advice,”                                             by Rowenna Miller

Whether you're new to creative writing or a seasoned pro, you've run into standard writing advice...and some of it doesn't seem to work for you. Is some of this advice bad? Are you just not cut out to be a writer (not that!)? Or is there a kernel of truth in every oft-repeated writing adage? Let's identify the useful parts of the rigid "rules" to foster a flexible, creative mindset for writing!

Come for a couple of hours or come for the day. We love sharing our stories, our characters, and our experiences in writing and publishing. So, if you have that ruminating thought that says “I should write a book,”... we could not be happier to share our individual experiences. Keep your eye out for other Michiana Authors events using the name “GET LIT”.
